Coffee, art, music and flavour

It’s the perfect blend of colourful laneway vibes, cool tunes and that laid back charm that you usually only find in the tropics.

Here food and coffee are served with passion and every element on your plate has a crucial role to play, creating harmony through contrasts of colour and flavour.

Caffiend is a hidden gem much loved by Cairns locals, and sought after by weary travellers, hungry for a taste of the now-iconic café tucked away in vibrant Graffiti Alley.

The creation of the passionate foodie, coffee connoisseur and self-confessed ‘caffiend’, James Oliver, it also stands as a pioneer of the budding laneway café and bar scene in Cairns.

The Salmon Brekky is also a hit with the hungry, with smoked salmon on smashed avocado toast and two poached eggs, topped with beetroot relish, horseradish cream and the house slaw.

Seasonal and local produce is revered at Caffiend, right down to the locally grown micro-herbs garnishing every dish. And of course, Caffiend’s own coffee label, The Tattooed Sailor Coffee Roasters, with a range of premium Ethiopian and Brazilian blends and single origins, all roasted in Cairns.
Coffee is where this all started for James, who poured his first espresso at the age of nine in his father’s restaurant. It was the beginning of a life-long love affair with food, flavour and coffee that has seen him work in award-winning restaurants across Australia and travel the world in search of the perfect beans.

His food philosophies, international travels and passion for coffee have blended seamlessly together to create Caffiend, and a culture all its own.
